Within the Club we have a Very Special
Member who is not only our Longest Serving Member (Joined ASA 1946)but also
finds time to Swim on a regular basis here at Retford Leisure Centre.
Whenever asked by not only the present
Committee Members but most previous Committee Members he has been only too
pleased to help out in anyway he could, it is of course
Peter Jervis our current Club President .
For those who don't already know Peter,
2012 is an ideal time to learn a little more about him with the Olympics high on
most peoples minds & the amount of commitment it takes through training &
continued competitions our swimmers can be expected to enter to achieve their
dreams.
One of Peter's first major competitions
was the English National Breast Stroke Championships in July 1949, a few years
later he then took part in the Commonwealth Games in Vancouver August 1954 from
then he competed in various Events Worldwide.
After a brief gap he then through the
1980's started to enter Masters Competitions but on the 20th August 1989 he was
diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy which resulted on the 8th December 1995 in Peter
having a Heart Transplant.
Even this did not stop him just slowed
him down for a while & in September 1998 at Ponds Forge he entered the English
Master Competition (G1 = 70/75 years), he came an incredible 2nd in 50m Breast
Stroke with a time of 47.40 sec.
